We are so excited to show you our new barn! Since having both Pomskies & Siberian Huskies, the 2 breeds being complete opposite sizing, we have had to come up with a way for safe play for all of our dogs.
Also, living on the farm with bison, we needed to create a safe space for the bison, bison calves & our dogs.
Our dogs live here in the barn, with everyone having their own space & 24/7 access to their own individual outdoor space. Everyone also has daily outdoor “group play.” With group play, we have the Pomskies take a turn having free range play of our acreage, with the Huskies being in the barn. Then in the afternoon, the huskies will all have group play while the Pomskies remain in the barn. We have had to introduce group play so our littles didn’t get injured by “keeping up with the big dogs.” This isn’t typically a problem in a normal household setting, however, we have more dogs than the average household.
In the spring, our bison are calving. Our home is surrounded by bison pasture, meaning, when the bison are calving, we do not want any of our dogs running over to them or the newborns to check things out. Both the bison and the dogs would be at risk of getting hurt. bison are VERY protective of their young. Dogs are also very curious & have excellent sense of smell, for these reasons we have had to make sure everyone is safe!
Our large indoor rooms are clean & bright. Each pup has a raised bed to promote long term good joint health. They have a toy and a fresh bone to play with, food and water bowls are attached to the door, raised for less stress to the neck muscles overtime. The doggie doors are a double walled with weatherstripping, which makes them efficient for keeping the heat in the winter or keeping it cool in the summer! Everyone has access to go to their outdoor space as they feel. Each room is also made of glass, so all the pups can see each other :)
Our barn is equipped with a floor heating system, as well as, an air conditioning unit that also forces heat.
Providing our dogs with a nice toasty warm indoor space in the winters (although huskies still prefer to sit outside most of the winter). In the summer, our dogs have a nice, cool, air conditioned indoor space to escape the heat!
You can also see here, for size reference, this is Steel, our largest male Husky, weighing 85lbs with Steve, who is almost 6ft, 200lbs. Lots of indoor space for our pups! :)
As you can imagine, we do have quite a bit of laundry with this many pups! Everything from bed covers, puppy mats, birthing mats, towels, toys etc! It all get washed here in the barn, and then hung to air dry! We also have a large sink, not just for hand washing but for puppy baths! Each puppy goes home, having had their first bath with us! We have some finishing touches to do, like finish tiles, putting up cute shelves etc!
When our pups are not having free play on the farm, they are in the barn which they have access to their own personal outdoor space as they please!
Meet Sylvester! He’s one of many yard cats, but the one whom stays with the dogs! Our main entrance isn’t complete just yet, but we will post as soon as it is!
